While the Tiger I was a very powerful tank, the German Army’s pursuit of even greater firepower led to the development of a second generation Tiger, one with an 88 mm cannon, 80 mm thick front armour, and 80 mm side armour. This new Tiger would be forever known as Königstiger, Royal Tiger, or King Tiger.
